Flash is dead, long live...
browser incompatibility issues
Hello and welcome to the first non-flash site I have built in about 7 years. It's a mix of XML, PHP, XHTML, javascript and CSS. The menu and galleries are dynamic. I am starting to miss some features of Flash already, especially the lack of browser compatibility issues. Internet Explorer 6 and those who continue to use it are the main offenders. This site probably looks a bit wonky in IE6. I have decided to move away from Flash because of the many security bugs. It has nothing to do with the furious and inane rantings of Steve Jobs. Until HTML 5 is widely supported there will still be a place for Flash.
Technology and art
The direction of my art
I am endlessly uncertain about the direction to take my art in. I want to push it to new levels. In the last 6 months I have been more prolific than at any time before. I have finished more artwork than ever before.
Technology and the aesthetic of technology are still the themes I intend to explore. I don't want to make moral judgments about the nature of technology. I want to take elements of what has been seen as beautiful and futuristic and repeat and manipulate those forms until something new is created. I want to take some of the murkiness from my paintings of the night into my machine images. Most of my technological forms have been single objects in isolation on one scale. I intend to move to something more like a landscape with multiple facets.
I want to find a positive artistic project as well. I would like to use 3D modeling and image manipulation to suggest simple ways our built environment could be improved. A new colour scheme for the Bristol Royal Infirmary, for example, or covering Colston tower in climbing plants.
